Are you passionate about tackling the climate and nature emergencies, and creating a healthier, greener, fairer world for everyone? Do you have strong leadership, campaigning and people management skills and want to use these for real impact as part of a creative and ambitious team? If so, we’d love to explore with you if you could be our new Head of Campaigns.
Friends of the Earth is the world’s largest grassroots environmental campaigning community. Together, we come up with solutions to the climate and nature crises, challenge injustice and campaign locally, nationally and internationally to make the biggest impact.
We have over five decades of campaigning achievements making real change – we are now looking for someone to head up our campaigns in a decade when radical action on the interconnected climate and ecological crises must happen.
This role is part of the senior leadership of our Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns department, reporting into the Director.
In this role, your key responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring that Friends of the Earth is running a diverse, transformational and anti-racist programme of campaigning that puts people -particularly those marginalised, oppressed and at risk- at the heart of our work.
- Leading and supporting a team of campaigners to excel -balancing high-quality day-to-day outputs with a long-term strategic vision- including prioritising wellbeing.
- Working as part of a campaign leadership team to ensure that our campaigns are well resourced, responsive, distinctive, impactful and build power.
- Overseeing the development of integrated campaigns that involve and bring together teams internally, communities, partner organisations and activists. Current campaign themes include warm homes, fracking, COP27 and access to healthy environments.
We’re looking for someone who is:
- An inspiring and empathetic leader, ideally from a mission-led background, and able to cultivate a culture of learning, creativity, inclusion and excellence.
- Able to show a strong track record of delivering strategic and impactful campaigns, including lived in or collaborative experience with diverse communities, and with a clear commitment to tackling racism and other forms of discrimination and marginalisation.
- Able to provide the vital bridge between developing campaign strategy and operational implementation, with excellent managerial and communication skills.
This role is a great opportunity to play a major role in shaping the development and future direction of Friends of the Earth as a key environmental justice organisation. We offer a competitive range of benefits, good work/life balance, excellent learning and development opportunities and a vibrant organisational culture.
We hope you will join us. Together, our voice is louder, our actions more significant and our impact is greater.

We offer a competitive range of benefits, good work/life balance, excellent learning and development opportunities and a vibrant organisational culture.
We are currently undergoing a consultation on the proposal of introducing a 4-day working week, which is likely to be implemented within the next few months.
Our staff body is currently under-representative of People of Colour, LGBTQIA+ people and people with long term conditions or impairments: We are committed to eroding these historic barriers, so as to create a movement in which people from all walks of life see themselves in, and so we particularly encourage you to apply if you belong to one of these groups or sit at multiple intersections of disadvantage. We are committed to the Disability Confident standard and will guarantee an interview to any candidates who declare a disability and who meet the essential criteria for the role.
Friends of the Earth staff are not permitted to hold office for political parties or stand as candidates for political parties. Staff should also seek permission from the Senior Management Team if they wish to hold a non-public facing official role in a political party.
