The ESA is currently searching for three Lead Space Segment Engineers to contribute to our Earth Observation Projects Department within the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. The position is based at ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands.
Role Summary
- Taking an integral role in end-to-end space segment engineering and industrial oversight.
- Ensuring coherent specification, design, development, verification, launch preparation, and in-orbit validation of spacecraft and associated equipment.

Role Requirements
- Master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Multidisciplinary technical knowledge and experience in space segment engineering, including related PA standards.
- Experience in spacecraft design, development, integration, and verification.
- Experience in managing and monitoring industrial activities in ESA project environments.
- Knowledge of ESA development, verification, and procurement processes.
- Experience in complex project schedule and risk management processes.

This includes ensuring coherent specification, design, development, verification, launch preparation, and in-orbit validation of spacecraft and associated equipment. Your responsibilities will ensure compliance with technical, programmatic, cost, and schedule requirements.

Candidates should have multidisciplinary technical knowledge and experience in space segment engineering, including related PA standards. Experience in spacecraft design, development, integration, and verification is essential. Additionally, experience in managing and monitoring industrial activities in ESA project environments, knowledge of ESA development, verification, and procurement processes, and experience in complex project schedule and risk management processes are required.
For the Sterna project, you will support system design consolidation, implementation of lessons learned, and procurement activities. For the CHIME mission, responsibilities include technical responsibility for space segment engineering and AIV/AIT definition and implementation. For the NGGM mission, the role involves supporting design, development, and verification of NGGM satellites.
