As part of the exciting and significant efforts of the Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration (D/HRE) at ESA, you would be taking a leading role in the Leo Cargo Return Service (LCRS) team. This team is revered for managing industrial contracts for the development of cargo resupply vehicles for the International Space Station, targeted for operation by 2029.

Role Summary:

  • Lead technical elements of the LCRS service development
  • Oversee specification, design, development and verification of spacecraft, platform and equipment hardware
  • Coordinate technical activities of the LCRS team in conjunction with other managerial staff

Role Requirements:

  • Master's degree in a relevant field
  • Background in space flight system design, development, assembly and integration
  • Proven capability in risk, schedule, and team management
  • Eligibility to access information and hardware subject to European or US export control regulations
  • Knowledge of English or French language

The Directorate of Human and Robotic Exploration (D/HRE) at ESA is committed to advancing space exploration through a synergy between humans and robots. The Role: You will be joining the Leo Cargo Return Service (LCRS) Team, which is responsible for managing two industrial contracts developing a cargo resupply vehicle for the International Space Station, targeted for operation by 2029. Your primary role will be to lead the technical elements of the service development of LCRS. This includes overseeing the specification, design, development, and verification/acceptance of spacecraft, platform, and equipment hardware across the project's lifespan. You will work closely with the LCRS Project Manager and System Engineer to coordinate the technical activities of the LCRS Team and the specialized engineering support from the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality (D/TEC) and the Directorate of Operations (D/OPS).

Job Requirements: A master's degree in a relevant field is essential. You should have a general background in the design, development, assembly, integration, testing, and acceptance of systems for space flight applications. Proven capability in risk, schedule, and team management will be considered an asset. Additionally, you must be eligible to access information, technology, and hardware subject to European or US export control and sanctions regulations.

Additional Information: Recruitment will generally be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4). However, candidates with less than four years of relevant professional experience post-master's degree may be appointed at the A1 level. The working languages at ESA are English and French, and knowledge of one of these is required. Proficiency in another Member State language is an asset.
