Role Summary

  • Directly reporting to the Head of REFM Division C.
  • Ensure the proper implementation of safety, security, and environmental instructions, regulations, and procedures at the ESOC, EAC, and ESEC sites.
  • Provide safety and security advice to the Heads of Establishment or Centre at these locations.
  • Oversee the internal REFM service, safety, and environmental management.

Role Requirements

  • Possess a master's degree in a relevant discipline and professional certification in security, business continuity, or health and safety fields.
  • Significant prior experience in managing physical security services, health, safety, and environmental measures at large establishments.
  • Project management experience, particularly in operational and service-related project coordination and delivery.
  • In-depth knowledge of French and German is essential.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking a Safety and Security Officer to join our Real Estate and Facilities Management (REFM) Division C, REFM Department, Directorate of Resources and Services. This position is based at one of our three sites: ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany, EAC in Cologne, Germany, or ESEC in Redu, Belgium.

The role: As a Safety and Security Officer, you will be under the direct authority of the Head of REFM Division C. Your primary responsibilities will include ensuring that safety, security, and environmental instructions, regulations, and procedures are properly implemented at the ESOC, EAC, and ESEC sites. You will provide safety and security advice to the Heads of Establishment or Centre at these locations and oversee internal REFM service, safety, and environmental management, ensuring compliance with applicable ESA policy and relevant national legislation.

Job requirements: The ideal candidate should have a master's degree in a relevant discipline and professional certification or membership in fields related to security, business continuity, and/or health and safety. Significant experience in overseeing physical security services, and health, safety, and environmental management at large establishments is highly desirable. Experience in project management, particularly in the coordination and delivery of operational and service-related projects, would be considered an asset. In-depth knowledge of French and German is required.
