The European Space Agency (ESA), a leader in space exploration, presents a unique opportunity to join as a Flight Software Engineer within the Technology, Engineering, and Quality Directorate at ESTEC, Netherlands. The successful candidates will embark on an initial 4-year appointment with potential extensions based on performance and organisational needs. Role Summary -

  • Involvement in specifications, design, development, verification, and validation of real-time embedded software on ESA spacecraft.
  • Provide technical support towards real-time embedded software systems, performing technical monitoring pertaining to flight software development.
  • Supervise various functional verification and validation activities at different levels within the organisation.

Role Requirements -

  • A master's degree in computer science, electronics engineering, telecommunications or related field
  • Strong experience with real-time embedded software on space-qualified hardware
  • Knowledge of SPARC LEON processors, ARM, RISC-V, Multicore platforms, and RTOS such as RTEMS and VxWorks
  • Experience in managing and monitoring industrial activities and familiarity with all phases of the software development life cycle including agile methodologies

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking three Flight Software Engineers to join our Technology, Engineering and Quality Directorate at ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands. This opportunity is open for an initial appointment of 4 years, with the possibility of extension to an indefinite duration or up to a maximum of 8 years based on performance and organisational needs.

The role: As a Flight Software Engineer, you will be involved in the specification, design, development, verification, and validation of real-time embedded software on board ESA spacecraft. You will support various ESA programmes from their definition phase until launch, overseeing relevant industrial activities. Your responsibilities will include providing technical support for real-time embedded software systems, performing technical monitoring of industrial activities linked to flight software development, and monitoring various functional verification and validation activities at different levels.

Job requirements: Applicants should hold a master's degree in computer science, electronics engineering, telecommunications, or a related discipline. Strong experience in real-time embedded software on space-qualified hardware is essential. Familiarity with SPARC LEON processors, ARM, RISC-V, multicore platforms, and RTOS such as RTEMS and VxWorks is required. Experience in all phases of the software development life cycle, including agile methodologies, is crucial. Proven experience in managing and monitoring industrial activities is also necessary.
