Process Simulation Engineer

Rivan Industries is a pioneering synthetic fuel company focused on decarbonizing heavy industry. Our mission is to make synthetic fuel more affordable than fossil fuels, thereby sustaining life on earth by keeping CO2 locked underground. We design and manufacture modular synthetic fuel plants that include a DAC system, an Alkaline Electrolyser, and a Sabatier Reactor, and integrate these with off-grid DC solar and the European gas-grid.

The role: As a Process Simulation Engineer at Rivan Industries, you will be responsible for building and owning the models that guide our design, construction, and scaling processes. This involves developing both first-principles and data-driven models of our lime-based DAC system to make informed engineering decisions. This role is crucial as your work will directly impact hardware choices, operating conditions, and architectural decisions. You will also be translating experimental data into validated models that predict real system behavior, identifying dominant rate-limiting mechanisms, and defining scaling laws and operating envelopes from lab to pilot to MW scale. Collaboration with experimental and design teams to validate models and resolve discrepancies is key.

Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have a PhD or equivalent experience in chemical engineering or a related field. We are open to both recent PhD graduates and experienced individuals with a proven track record in modelling ownership. Essential skills include strong capabilities in first-principles and reduced-order modelling, proficiency in Python and/or MATLAB, and experience in simplifying complex systems into tractable models. Experience in validating models against experimental or real-world data is crucial.
