The British Red Cross is looking for an entrepreneurial, innovative thinker to join our innovation team, specifically in growing our 'hire a wheelchair' social enterprise.

You will lead in developing new ways to deliver our longest running social enterprise - our hire a wheelchair service (Mobility Aids Service), including the exploration, testing and launch of new locations, partnerships and solutions to help reach our service users. Supported by an Innovation Officer within the Mobility Aids service, you will use a test-and-learn approach, helping to scale the social enterprise to achieve greater outcomes.

You will champion our user-centric design approach; ensuring users are at the heart of our design and development process.  

You'll work collaboratively with people from a variety of different backgrounds and disciplines. All the time supported by an immediate and wider team of highly passionate, skilled and friendly people who help create the space to make things happen. 

What we are looking for...

  • You are passionate about innovation and driving change in the charity sector
  • You have an entrepreneurial, growth mindset and experience of developing new products, services, commercial ventures, or social enterprises 
  • You have the mindset to be able to test and learn, to build and improve services within the BRC
  • You have led innovation projects and feel comfortable testing and piloting new solutions/services
  • You are naturally curious, always on the lookout for new ideas and ways to improve processes, products, and services
  • You are user-focused and enjoy developing insight and identifying and responding to trends 
  • You are a people person that can engage others positively and can passionately champion and communicate ideas and new concepts to different audiences 
  • You have knowledge of a range of innovation tools and methodologies (e.g., design thinking, rapid prototyping and agile delivery) 
  • You have experience and skills of relationship building and negotiation
  • You are comfortable with financial models
