What You'll Do
As a motion designer for our Broadcast team, you will work to bring fun and life into our competitive chess events, mostly online, but sometimes live. You will collaborate closely with designers, producers, and show hosts to create event coverage that will share.
You will conceptualize, design, and execute animated graphics (video bumpers, GFX packages, animations + more) for a variety of Chess.com's live esports-style broadcasts covering our various live event brands and tournaments featuring the best chess players in the world.The graphics you create will be integrated and featured across thousands of hours of programming aired on the Chess.com family of platforms including Twitch, YT, ChessTV, and linear TV. You will work closely with creative directors and members of production to determine project needs, develop a project plan, and produce effective visual solutions in time for upcoming broadcasts. You are dedicated to preserving the brand values of Chess.com and ensure that all productions support our brand initiatives.
Our ideal candidate will have a sensibility toward broadcast-quality videography, editing, and motion design along with a desire to tell stories that will turn curious viewers into excited fans. You should have a demonstrated ability to build dynamic motion graphics packages, elements, and templates across a wide array of styles. You should have strong foundational design skills, and be constantly learning and mastering new skills to work towards developing your creative vision.

Preferred Skills
- 5+ years experience in motion graphics, broadcast, or animation
- 5-7 years experience creating motion graphics and branded packages for execution in a live broadcast environment, especially for sports or esports programming.
- Experience includes creating variety of motion backgrounds, box looks, overlays and appropriate alt looks for completely branded graphics package for use in coverage of live sports or tournament competitions
- Ability to work under tight deadlines within broadcast schedule that produces 225+ shows per calendar year
- Exceptional creativity in concept development, storyboarding, and problem solving
- Mastery of Adobe After Effects/Creative Suite, and other broadcast and streaming tools (Flowics, XPression, GT Titler, or other live CG systems)
- Strong graphic design acumen
- Strong production skills and experience working in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-motivated and proactive
- Portfolio/reel displaying breadth of work
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to take creative input, be flexible and collaborate with team members
- Able to stay productive and fulfilled in a remote work environment
- Available during US hours, with flexibility to shift hours as needed for supporting broadcasts
- Must have high speed internet connection
- Familiarity with the culture of sports, esports or chess a plus
