The role
We are looking for a Lead Product Designer who will lead by example and shape the future of our product experience at Busuu. You will drive innovation and inspire others to continually improve our learners’ experience across all areas of our product. You will play a key role in developing our growing design team, raising the bar by mentoring and coaching in their skills, tooling, & practice, helping our team to make smart decisions on process, resourcing and project planning.
We need a design leader who is user centric, tackling customer problems from initial sketch through to project completion, with the ability to work holistically across iOS, Android and Web, looking at the longer term strategy as well as the short term goals. Most importantly, you will positively impact the lives of millions of people – inspiring them to learn together with Busuu.
What does a Lead Product Designer do at Busuu?
As Lead Product Designer you will play a key leadership role at Busuu. As an expert in your field, you will raise the bar for learner-centric design and research across our entire design team. You will champion design thinking and collaborate with Busuu leadership to define, influence, and build support for long and short term product strategy.
Working across squads as a hands-on designer, you will lead by example, helping to inspire and develop our growing design team by championing team culture, setting design best practice and challenging others' thinking to ensure the most effective outcome for our learners. You will plan, design and develop the experience of new products and features, developing and honing existing flows with the aim of creating a learning experience that will inspire and develop our learners. In collaboration with product managers, designers, copywriters, engineers and education experts, you will help to lead projects across the entire product lifecycle and multiple product launches, setting the vision for the learning experience.

You are confident in leading product design across multiple areas of a business through collaboration, planning and stakeholder engagement.
You are able to use qualitative and quantitative data and research to inform and identify new, high-impact solutions that will improve our learners' experience, shape our strategy and drive our company OKRs.
You have experience in people management and are able to mentor, coach, inspire and motivate.
You are a strong communicator to company leadership and outwards to our industry and the world.
You are able to demonstrate a high level of product design through experience, interaction and UI.
You have experience working within an Agile development team and work well with engineers and product managers.
You can lead design problems autonomously throughout the product life-cycle; problem definition to iteration, through prototyping and user testing.
You have broad knowledge and deep understanding of design methodologies, techniques and tools and have the ability to educate others on these topics.
You are able to design cross-platform and cross-device. You design for experiences, not for screens in isolation.
