Role Summary:

  • Oversee procurement and delivery of backend payload elements for various project phases.
  • Report to S1 NG and ROSE-L Payload Managers on all technical and programmatic matters.
  • Manage the design, development, manufacturing, testing, and characterisation of the backend payload subsystem.


Role Requirements:

  • A Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline or a Bachelor’s degree with additional professional experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of electronic system architectures including hardware, firmware, and software.
  • Experience managing technical interfaces between subsystems in an ESA project team environment or within the industrial consortium.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking a Lead SAR Back-end Payload Engineer for the Copernicus Sentinel-1 Next Generation (S1 NG) and ROSE-L missions. These missions are crucial for the continuation and enhancement of Copernicus Sentinel measurements into the 2030s. The role involves entering into Phase B2/C/D (implementation) of these projects.

The role: As the Lead SAR Back-end Payload Engineer, you will be responsible for the procurement and timely delivery of the backend payload elements of the synthetic aperture radar during various project phases. You will report to the S1 NG and ROSE-L Payload Managers for all technical and programmatic matters and work within the relevant project teams. Your duties will include supervising the design, development, manufacturing, testing, and characterisation of the backend payload subsystem.

Job requirements: The position requires a master’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline or a bachelor’s degree with additional professional experience. Extensive knowledge of electronic system architectures and their breakdown into hardware, firmware, and software items is considered an asset. You should have experience in managing technical interfaces between subsystems in an ESA project team environment or within the industrial consortium.
