The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking a qualified Optical Payload Engineer to join our Optics Section within the Optics, Robotics and Life Sciences Division, Mechanical Department, at the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. This position is based at ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands.
The role: As an Optical Payload Engineer, you will provide technical expertise and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes, and general studies for the development of optical space payloads and instrumentation throughout all project phases. You will participate in feasibility studies, project reviews, and the evaluation of procurement proposals. Additionally, you will identify critical development problems and assist in their resolution, contribute to the definition of technology development plans, and define, initiate, and manage R&D activities.
Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in applied optics, optical engineering, or physics. Experience in optical design, performance analysis, and the associated software tools is essential. Hands-on experience in assembly, integration, and testing/verification of optical instruments is also required. Familiarity with ESA's environment, processes, programmes, and standards would be an asset.
