The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking a Thermal Engineer to join our Thermal Control Section within the Thermal Division, Mechanical Department, at the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. Located at ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands, this role offers a unique opportunity to engage in cutting-edge technology and contribute to the thermal challenges of ESA missions, spacecraft, instruments, and equipment.
The role: As a Thermal Engineer, you will provide expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects and programs in the field of thermal control and cryogenics across all project phases. Your responsibilities will include participating in feasibility studies, project reviews, and the evaluation of procurement proposals. You will also perform analysis to support the thermal subsystem definition, participate in thermal testing activities, and correlate analysis with test results. Additionally, you will identify critical development problems and assist in their resolution, contribute to the definition of technology development requirements, and manage R&D activities.
Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in mechanical engineering or physics, with experience in spacecraft thermal engineering and related technologies. Knowledge of space thermal control analysis tools, such as ESATAN-TMS, is required. Experience in cryogenics will be considered an asset.
