Role Summary:

  • Solar cells and solar generators’ space application knowledge are pivotal.
  • Exemplary leadership skills to manage a team and create a motivating work environment.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking a Head of Solar Generators Section at our ESTEC site in Noordwijk, Netherlands. This role is within the Power Systems, EMC and Space Environments Division of the Electrical Department, under the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

The role: As the Head of the Solar Generators Section, you will be responsible for managing the Section's resources and activities, ensuring the operational outcomes within the Section's technical domain are achieved. You will oversee technological research and development in space solar cells, photovoltaics, and solar generators. This includes managing the design, development, integration, and testing of these technologies, as well as conducting in-orbit performance evaluations and laboratory activities for characterisation and qualification.

Job requirements: The position requires a master's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience. Experience in solar cells and solar generators for space applications is essential. You should have a strong background in technology and process development, manufacturing at the part and subsystem levels, and be skilled in the design, development, and verification of space solar arrays. Leadership skills are crucial, as you will be managing a team, driving their development, and fostering a motivating work environment.
