Role Summary

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking a qualified Instrumentation Engineer to join our Life Support and Physical Sciences Instrumentation Section within the Optics, Robotics and Life Sciences Division, Mechanical Department, at the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. This position is based at ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands.

The role: As an Instrumentation Engineer, you will be involved in the development and integration of payloads for human and robotic exploration, environmental control, life support systems, and in situ resource utilization. Your responsibilities will include providing engineering support, technical risk management, interfacing with industry and the science community, participating in feasibility studies, project reviews, and the evaluation of procurement proposals. You will also contribute to technology development requirements, manage R&D activities, and monitor scientific and technological trends.

Job requirements: Applicants must hold a master's degree in a relevant field and have at least five years of professional experience in payload development and integration. Hands-on hardware experience and familiarity with space engineering standards are essential. A PhD in a relevant domain would be considered an asset.
