Role Summary:

Role Requirements:

  • A master’s degree in a scientific/engineering domain with 10 years of relevant experience, or a bachelor’s degree with an additional four years of experience.
  • Experience in team leadership, strategic direction, and excellent communication skills.
  • Knowledge of space systems, ESA and industrial practices, verification and procurement processes.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is excited to announce an opening for the position of WIVERN Project Manager at our Earth Observation Programmes department in ESTEC, Noordwijk, Netherlands. This role is crucial as it involves managing the WIVERN (WInd VElocity Radar Nephoscope) Project, which is the 11th Earth Explorer Mission aimed at delivering the first global observations of the three-dimensional wind field. This mission will significantly enhance our understanding of atmospheric phenomena, sea ice, snow, and ocean surface currents.

The role: As the WIVERN Project Manager, you will be responsible for the end-to-end procurement and technical management of the WIVERN Project within the agreed technical specifications, costs, and schedule. This includes managing phases B1, B2, C, D, and E1 for both space and ground segments. You will also manage industrial contracts and interface with industry for all project matters. Additionally, you will represent the project to ESA technical authorities and ensure efficient information flow to all project participants.

Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have a master’s degree in a scientific/engineering domain with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience, or a bachelor’s degree with an additional four years of relevant experience. Proven experience in leading and motivating teams, strategic direction skills, and excellent leadership and communication skills are essential. Knowledge of space system development, ESA and industrial development, verification, and procurement processes is required.
