Organisation summary:

ESA, at the forefront of Europe's excellence in Earth observation systems, applications, and science, is looking for a skilled Marine and Coastal Applications Scientist to help protect Earth's coastal ecosystems. This position is based in the beautiful ESRIN campus in Frascati, Italy.

Role Summary:

  • Manage EO research and development projects focused on marine and coastal applications.

Role Requirements:

  • Master's degree in remote sensing, geophysics or related field.
  • At least 4 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Knowledge of remote-sensing techniques related to marine and coastal applications.
  • Experience in scientific collaborations and knowledge of relevant international policies.
  • A PhD is a bonus, especially if coupled with project management experience.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking a Marine and Coastal Applications Scientist for its Earth Observation Programmes Directorate, based at ESRIN in Frascati, Italy. This role is a unique opportunity to contribute to Europe's excellence in Earth observation systems, applications, and science. The position is part of the Applications Section within the Green Solutions Division of the Climate Action, Sustainability, and Science Department.

The role: As a Marine and Coastal Applications Scientist, you will be responsible for defining and managing EO research and development projects focused on marine and coastal applications. This includes protection and monitoring of marine and coastal ecosystems, biodiversity, the blue economy, coastal blue carbon, nature-based solutions, and climate adaptation. Your work will support international and European policies and initiatives related to climate, environment, and sustainable development.

Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in remote sensing, geophysics, or a related field, with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience. A PhD is considered an asset, as is professional experience in remote-sensing applications development and project management. You should have knowledge of scientific disciplines and remote-sensing techniques relevant to marine and coastal applications, experience in leading international scientific collaborations, and familiarity with relevant international and European policies.
