The role purpose
We are searching for a pro-active and well-organized purchasing officer to join our growing team here at Origin, to develop our supply chain and help adopt lean methodologies.
The role overview
The role will include handling purchases throughout the business from stock ordering, supply forecasting to departmental spending. To be successful as a purchasing officer you should be able to multitask and evaluate products and vendors whilst having a keen eye for numbers. The business is in the process of implementing lean manufacturing principles and therefore experience working with purchasing and planning systems, including Kanban and 5S, would be a benefit.
Requirements
The role responsibilities
- Ensuring continuity of stock and materials supply, planning stockholding to deal with demand fluctuations
- Understanding unit costs across all materials supply to inform bill of materials (BOMS) on the business inventory system
- Coordination of purchase orders, tracking deliveries and goods in processes. Collecting and collating information from warehousing deliveries and reconciling against supplier invoices
- purchasing, to make sure items ordered match up with items delivered, and ensuring costs are correct with systems including Unleashed.
- Forecasting future demand and tracking sale trends to aid stock level movements
- Sourcing materials, goods, products, and services and negotiating the best or most cost-effective contracts and deals
- Assessing MOQs with suppliers as part of a cost control and future purchasing strategy
- Performing inventory inspections and reordering supplies and stock as necessary
- Working with the warehouse team to report any faulty items or inconsistencies immediately
- Updating and maintaining records of all orders, payments, and received stock
- Management of central cost spends within the office
- Responsible for ensuring all departmental spend is appropriately signed off
- Assisting the Director of Coffee to manage coffee forecasts and procurement requirements for upcoming harvests
- Managing the relationships with our suppliers.
- Keeping abreast of industry and commercial changes and assessing risk to our supply chain

Essential
- Experience of commercial purchasing contract arrangement
- Excellent level of digital skills including MS Office applications and procurement systems
- Ability to understand, evaluate and present complex data
- Successful track record of delivery cost reductions
- Proven track record of influencing people and implementing change
- A demonstratable track record of procurement savings delivery
- Able to prioritise and deliver in rapidly moving environment
- Awareness of procurement compliance to instruct wider team/clients
Desirable
- CIPS qualified
- Experience of Lean Manufacturing environment, Six Sigma, and other operational efficiency practices
- Experience of using Unleashed, Xero or other cloud-based business management systems
- Project management experience
- Knowledge of EU/UK Procurement Policies, Procedure and Processes as well as eSourcing tools.
