Role Summary

Role Requirements

  • Experience in ESA programmes, procurement processes, and contract management
  • Strong leadership capabilities
  • Ability to manage a team of experts

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking a Head of the Electric Propulsion Section at our ESTEC site in Noordwijk, Netherlands. This role is within the Propulsion, Aerothermodynamics and Flight Vehicle Engineering Division of the Mechanical Department, under the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

The role: As the Head of the Electric Propulsion Section, you will be responsible for managing the Section's resources and activities. This includes overseeing the architecture, engineering, research and development, and testing of electric propulsion systems for various space missions. The role also involves maintaining and operating the Electric Propulsion Laboratory and supporting the evolution of European electric propulsion test facilities.

Job requirements: The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in aerospace, mechanical or electric engineering, or physics, with at least 10 years of relevant professional experience. You should have solid experience in electric propulsion technologies, plasma physics, space system engineering, and testing of electric propulsion systems. Experience in ESA programmes, procurement processes, and contract management is essential. Strong leadership capabilities and the ability to manage a team of experts are also required.
