About Breakthrough
Breakthrough is a social enterprise that trains and selects exceptional prison leavers and provides them with expert training, to bring diverse, inspiring talent to businesses through our fully-supported apprenticeships.
We transform lives and communities through the impact we have on the individuals and businesses we work with and through reducing reoffending. We run two main programmes: a pre-apprenticeship course in prison and the community and digital apprenticeships upon release. The objective of the pre-apprenticeship programme is to get our Associates ready and excited for the world of work and to develop the soft skills that all careers value alongside the specific technical skills that are required for the apprenticeship. The programme is also an opportunity for our employers to get to know the students better and kick off the recruitment process.
The Role : Advisory Board Member
Breakthrough is looking for advisory board members to support our strategy and raising the profile of our organisation. We are looking for a wide range of people with various experience, including financial expertise, those with connections within the Ministry of Justice and those with lived experience of the criminal justice system.
The role requires advocating for Breakthrough and what we do, as well as prison and criminal justice reform generally. Actively promoting and representing Breakthrough to other stakeholders allows to us to continue with our growth.
We have four board meetings a year, so with preparation time and other activities, we expect this role to be 1-2 hours a month on average.
