What's the role?
As the UK Senior Communications Manager, you will be responsible for driving communication strategies that inform, inspire, and engage external audiences. This role will lead communications tailored to external audiences in the UK and will focus on raising brand awareness of Etsy’s narrative and products to buyer-facing/consumer audiences. This person will work closely with the team to create new strategies and messaging while also partnering with senior leaders across the organization to uncover opportunities to tell new stories, amplify our current efforts, and localize global campaigns.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Director of Global Consumer Communications. For this role, we are considering candidates based in the UK who are either remote, flex, or office-based. Etsy offers different work modes to meet the variety of needs and preferences of our team. - Leading communications strategy for consumer-focused campaigns for Etsy in the UK including developing clear and compelling messaging to drive high-quality media coverage for key marketing and brand campaigns.
- Drive execution of consumer campaigns through agency support and on-the-ground media outreach
- Lead a PR agency
- Ensure that strategies are data-driven by proactively seeking opportunities that support Etsy’s trends
- Build and execute on compelling story angles that will resonate with media across a variety of categories
- Partner with leaders and teams across Etsy to create local press opportunities to raise awareness for Etsy’s brand narrative
- Create messaging and materials both for specific announcements and for use on an ongoing basis
- Secure & implement media opportunities for consumer-focused spokesperson including messaging development, segment production, prop sourcing, etc.
- Share and amplify media coverage with internal audiences including a monthly report of PR metrics; proactively ideate and communicate strategies for improvement.
- Proactively seek out high-impact opportunities that tie back to Etsy’s goals and mission
- Implement global campaigns with a locally relevant angle
- Build local press campaigns that raise brand awareness for Etsy’s narrative
- Reactively place positive stories for Etsy related to local/world pop culture moments
- Distilling complex information into engaging content for a variety of audiences.
- Source and vet sellers and products for local media outreach
- Maintaining good judgment in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
- Proactively building and maintaining relationships with key internal partners across a range of departments.
What does the day-to-day look like?
- Lead consumer comms campaigns and be responsible for campaigns that scale to the nuanced consumer media landscape in the UK
- Manage and provide guidance
- Define methods and metrics to localise global PR campaigns
- Execute on local opportunities to insert Etsy into the consumer Zeitgeist
- Work closely and collaboratively with the global comms team to increase the impact of campaigns

Qualifications
Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
- Record of success in communications, including the design and implementation of comprehensive communication programs.
- 8-10+ years of communications experience (bonus: if time spent at an agency)
- Have strong media relations with UK reporters/media outlets
- Experience managing PR agencies and/or direct reports
- Consistent track record and passion as a storyteller.
- Are detail-oriented and like to multi-task
- Are deeply familiar with the media landscape
- Are comfortable acting as a liaison between the communications team and partners across an organization
- Like to think creatively when it comes to new communications channels and approaches
- Have great media relations skills and contacts
- Have impeccable writing skills
- Are a team player with a “roll up your sleeves and get it done” attitude

- Have experience planning and handling logistics for events and presentations
- Have your finger on the pulse of the constantly evolving media landscape and emerging new media channels
