The European Space Agency (ESA), the cornerstone of Europe's space endeavours, is opening doors for two Spacecraft Operations Engineers. Being part of the Earth Observation Missions Division in the Mission Operations Department at D/OPS, you'll be deeply involved in spacecraft operations from early phase definition to routine mission operations.
Role Summary:

  • Participation in the BIOMASS/FLEX/CRYO&SWARM Missions Operations Unit.
  • Assistance in mission operations including nominal, special, and contingency operations.
  • Actively involved in spacecraft and ground segment anomaly investigation and resolution.
  • Responsible for performance evaluation and reporting.

Role Requirements:

  • A master's degree in a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years of professional experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in flight operations and ground systems engineering.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the ESA operations environment and working methodologies.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking two Spacecraft Operations Engineers to join our Earth Observation Missions Division within the Mission Operations Department at the Directorate of Operations (D/OPS). Our division is tasked with the management, definition, and implementation of spacecraft operations and the flight operations segment, typically from the beginning of phase B and in-flight commissioning to routine mission operations until the end of the mission.

The Role: You will be assigned to either the BIOMASS/FLEX/CRYO&SWARM Missions Operations Unit or directly to the Division in support of EOP’s ERS-EO and national programs flight operations activities. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the definition, preparation, and execution of the mission operations assigned to the Unit, including nominal, special, and contingency operations. You will also be involved in spacecraft and ground segment anomaly investigation and resolution, performance evaluation and reporting, and interfacing with other areas within the Agency, industry, the user community, external centres, and/or agencies.

Job Requirements: A master's degree in a relevant domain is required, along with at least 3 years of relevant professional experience. You should have a minimum of three years direct experience in flight operations and ground systems engineering, demonstrated knowledge of the ESA operations environment and its working methodologies, and the ability to analyse and sum up technical and programmatic information leading to minimum cost/acceptable risk solutions.

Additional Information: Applicants must be eligible to access information, technology, and hardware which is subject to European or US export control and sanctions regulations & eligible to acquire the security clearance by their national security administrations. Recruitment will be within the advertised grade band (A2-A4), but if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the master’s degree, the position may be filled at A1 level.
