Tech Cofounder / CTO - Project Freebird

The Freebird Club is a peer-to-peer social travel and homestay club for the over 50s. It offers a new and accessible way of travelling for older people, a fun way to meet and enjoy social & cultural interaction at home & away, and a means to unlock value in their homes and earn income in later life. Positioned at the intersection of traveltech and agetech, where the silver economy meets the sharing economy, the Freebird Club seeks to address social issues such as loneliness, disconnection and lack of later life opportunities for older adults through a tech enabled community model. Our mission is to connect, empower and enrich the lives of older adults through meaningful travel and social experiences.

The Role

As part of the founding team you will be an instrumental part of shaping the product & business strategy. You will own the tech strategy and manage day-to-day engineering execution. Looking ahead, you will be responsible for helping grow the team and set up the technical capabilities of the business for growth.

Interesting technical challenges:

- Use of ML for matching members based on profile interests

- Building out a search & booking engine

- Implementation of an activity recommender system

- APIs to expose capabilities to 3rd-parties

Responsibilities include

Taking charge of platform development, making key decisions on technical architecture Delivering the MVP, enabling us to test, iterate and serve our growing membership base Ensuring the systems architecture and infrastructure is scalable and can support growth Feeding into product strategy and identifying opportunities to quickly deliver customer value

You will have the following skills

Demonstrated ability to deliver product in a tech startup environment Confidence over the full stack of web development, particularly on our preferred stack of PHP/Laravel, React, & AWS Experience with technologies such as ElasticSearch and recommender systems a bonus Ability to inspire and build a team Entrepreneurial spirit, flexibility and willingness to work across a range of areas and grittiness to operate in a start-up environment Reasons to care about our mission to connect and enrich the lives of older adults.
