The European Space Agency (ESA) is at the forefront of global space science, with a focus on heliophysics, planetary science, astrophysics, and fundamental physics. Our mission is to empower Europe to lead in space science. We are currently seeking a Science Operations System Engineer to join our Science Operations Department (SCI-S) within the Directorate of Science. This department is integral to the development, operation, and archiving of data for our space missions, aiming to maximize scientific output for humanity.
The role: As a Science Operations System Engineer, you will be primarily involved with the Jupiter Icy Moons Explorer (JUICE) mission. Your responsibilities will include supporting the design, implementation, testing, and maintenance of the science ground segment system, particularly focusing on the science operation centres. You will work closely with the JUICE Science Operations Development Manager and be based at the Science Operations Centre (SOC) in ESAC, Madrid, Spain. Your role will evolve to support multi-mission solutions and potentially other planetary missions within the division.
Job requirements: Candidates should have a master's degree in engineering, space science, space applications, or equivalent. Experience in software systems engineering, operations infrastructure, and maintenance, preferably in science operations, is essential. Additional assets include experience in designing scalable and distributed systems, working with software development repositories, and project management involving multiple interfaces in space science.
Benefits: ESA offers an inclusive work environment and values diversity. We are committed to providing equal opportunities regardless of gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious beliefs, age, or disability. Accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities, and we support diverse functional areas relevant to ESA activities.
