Role Requirements:

  • Understanding of satellite communications market dynamics and exceptional negotiation skills.
  • Experience in working with a commercial telecommunications operator, European industry knowledge and awareness of operating within a European agency framework.

The European Space Agency (ESA) is seeking two Space Segment Product Engineers to join the Space Segment Section of the Technology and Products Division within the Systems, Strategic Programme Lines and Technology Department, under the Directorate of Connectivity and Secure Communications. This role is based either at ECSAT in Harwell, United Kingdom, or at ESTEC in Noordwijk, Netherlands.

The role: As a Space Segment Product Engineer, you will be responsible for managing space segment (platform and payload) technology and product development activities specifically for satellite communication applications. Your tasks will include initiating, monitoring, and controlling development activities in collaboration with various departments such as the Procurement Department and Strategic Programme Line managers. You will also manage the implementation of activities related to space segment products, review business cases, and conduct industry roadmap meetings.

Job requirements: Candidates should hold a master's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific domain with at least 4 years of relevant professional experience. Alternatively, candidates with a bachelor's degree complemented by an additional four years of relevant professional experience can be considered. Essential skills include experience in managing space segment technology and product development activities, knowledge of satellite communications market dynamics, and strong negotiation skills. Experience working with a commercial telecommunications operator and European industry, as well as an understanding of operating within a European agency framework, would be distinct advantages.
