Role Summary:

  • Create engaging content showcasing our company values.
  • Track and analyse our marketing performance.
  • Coordinate exciting event experiences.
  • Manage our online store and customer interactions.
  • Support website updates and SEO optimization.
  • Create compelling content with AI tools.
  • Interact with our valuable partners and audience through social media platforms.
  • Support the execution of our marketing campaigns and public relations activities.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and partners.
  • Assist with project management.

Role Requirements:

  • A strong passion for travel and our ethos.
  • A proactive and curious approach to work.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with a meticulous eye for detail.
  • Experience using technology (including AI) to enhance marketing strategies.
  • Administrative and data entry skills.
  • A degree in Marketing, Communications, Business or a relevant field, or at least a year of marketing experience.
  • A deep interest in slow travel - an experience that enriches the journey, the local community involvement and the lasting memories it creates.

The Slow Cyclist

In 2009, our Founder Oli Broom jumped on his bicycle and spent the next 412 days cycling alone to Australia. He is the original Slow Cyclist. Now, for the past decade, we have been leading exceptional small group cycling and walking adventures for the culturally curious in Africa, Europe and its fringes.

FT How to Spend It called us 'a cult adventure outfit' and Conde Nast Traveller recently named us in their annual list of one of the '50 travel specialists to know right now.'

Opportunity

We are looking for a passionate traveller and marketer to join our growing team. The right candidate will enjoy working in an experienced marketing team and see this as a chance not only to gain experience in the sector, but to grow and benefit from future opportunities with us.

Where?

Our 16-person team works out of a beautifully refurbished 17th-century barn that's 10 minutes north of Oxford by train. However, 2-3 days a week can be spent working remotely.

Note: when a team works together, great things can be achieved. Depending on where you live, we might be able to pay accommodation so that you can be in the office 2-3 days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Content Creation Support: You'll help craft engaging content for our website, social media channels, and trip brochures, ensuring our messaging truly captures the essence of The Slow Cyclist.
  • Performance Tracking & Analysis: You'll assist in updating our marketing performance dashboards and utilise our CRM system to manage and analyse campaign performance, helping us keep a finger on the pulse of what's working well.
  • Event Coordination: You'll lend a hand in organising exciting events, such as our UK eBike taster days, giving potential guests a taste of the Slow Cyclist experience.
  • Online Store Management: You'll help manage our online store, which includes coordinating order fulfillment, keeping stock levels updated, and assisting with customer service requests related to store purchases.
  • Website & SEO Support: You'll support technical and content updates on our websites, learning how to improve our search engine optimisation (SEO) to help more people discover us.
  • AI Content Generation: You'll have the opportunity to utilise AI tools to create compelling content and support the wider marketing team's creative efforts.
  • Social Media Engagement: You'll use our social media platforms to interact with our valued partners and engage directly with our target audience, fostering a strong online community.
  • Marketing Campaign Support: You'll actively support the execution of various marketing campaigns, learning how to bring our strategic visions to life.
  • PR & Media Support: You'll provide valuable support for our Public Relations (PR) activities, as well as assisting with the coordination of photo and video creation.
  • Supplier & Partner Liaison: You'll liaise with external suppliers and partners, including developers, printers, and other agencies, ensuring smooth collaboration on various projects.
  • Project Management: You'll help us stay organised by maintaining our project management software, ensuring tasks and timelines are kept up-to-date.
  • Active Team Contribution: You'll be an active and valued member of the marketing team, contributing to team meetings, sharing ideas, and asking questions to deepen your understanding of our brand and target audience.

About You

We're looking for someone who is not just seeking a job, but a genuine connection with our purpose of giving joy and being a force for good in travel. You will:

  • Have passion for travel & our ethos: You have a deep love for exploring the world, ideally with a personal background in travel – perhaps a gap year, extended backpacking, or experience working in tourism or similar travel-focused role. You genuinely believe in the power of "slow travel" – savouring the journey, connecting with local cultures, and appreciating authentic experiences over speed.
  • Be curious, with a proactive approach to work: You're a natural learner with a keen interest in how technology, including AI prompts, can enhance marketing efforts. While not necessarily a digital marketing expert, you possess a strong digital awareness and a willingness to explore new tools and approaches.
  • Be an excellent communicator & team player: You have strong written and verbal communication skills, a meticulous eye for detail, and a collaborative spirit. You're eager to support a small, dedicated team and contribute to a positive working environment.
  • Be organised & detail-oriented: You're comfortable with administrative tasks, data entry, and managing various components of a marketing campaign, ensuring everything is executed smoothly.
  • Have the following education: You likely hold a relevant degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, or a related field, or possess up to a year of experience in an entry-level marketing position.

What You'll Get From Us

A full time, permanent contract. But more than that...

  • Access to the company pension scheme
  • 22 days holiday per year
  • Additional holidays for length of service
  • Your birthday off
  • 10% Friends and Family discount + referral commission
  • Regular company social events

The Slow Cyclist Ethos

Slow travel is about savouring the journey, the people, the sights, smells and sounds along the way. It encourages deeper connections, friendship and lifelong memories. It is local, thoughtful and sensitive to its impact. It is an antidote to mindless mass tourism. A bicycle journey with The Slow Cyclist is a wonderful way to travel slowly. With an open mind, an open heart and a little juice in the legs, it can provide the ultimate slow exploration of new lands, their food, history, landscapes and people. But although it’s our focus, we don’t just want to run great trips. In fact, we spend much of our time thinking about how we can run great trips, while benefiting people and planet. Our values guide us to this end.
