Role Summary

Role Requirements

  • A Master’s degree or higher in telecommunications, electrical or computer engineering.
  • Experience in satellite telecommunications systems engineering.
  • In-depth knowledge in one or more technical domains covered by the position.
  • Eligibility for security clearance by their national security administration.

  • Nationality from one of the specified States and proficient in English or French; knowledge of another Member State language beneficial.

We are looking for a Telecommunication Systems Engineer to join our team at the Directorate of Technology, Engineering and Quality. Our team provides functional support to ESA projects and carries out technological research and development (R&D) in the fields of satellite telecommunications network architectures, techniques and algorithms (coding, modulation, access, synchronisation and networking), system tools and telecom equipment.

The role entails providing expert technical support and consultancy to ESA projects, programmes and general studies in the field of telecommunications systems throughout all project phases. You will be participating in feasibility studies, project reviews and evaluation of procurement proposals. You will also be identifying critical development problems and assisting in their resolution. You will contribute to the definition of technology development requirements and work plans for the Agency’s technology programmes.

Job requirements include a master’s degree in telecommunications, electrical or computer engineering. A PhD in a relevant domain would be considered a plus. You should have a general background in satellite telecommunications systems engineering and specific in-depth experience in one or more of the following technical domains covered by the position: satellite telecommunications systems prototyping, verification and validation in laboratory environments as well as in satellite live tests; satellite aeronautical telecommunications for air traffic management and alternative positioning applications; free space and satellite-ground optical telecommunications links; satellite telecommunications upper layer (above physical layer) protocols; satellite telecommunications physical layer protocols.
