What will you be doing?

All Calais Light Trustees must be engaged & active – these are not passive roles. The plight of refugees in N France & here in the UK is a fast-evolving, emotional situation, requiring agile, constructive decision-making to meet needs.  Calais Light needs good minds, regular discussion & commitment to help us do so effectively. As well as a heart for refugees & human rights. 

What are we looking for?

Senior Finance Background. Accounting/bookkeeping experience is vital as you would manage our Gift Aid function  – as well as ‘big picture’ strategic & budgetary understanding. Senior IT Background: Yahoo mail, Microsoft, Cloud based storage, Apps, GDPR, Troubleshooting: you would help us migrate to Outlook, solve IT issues, find smarter ways of managing our database & records, running campaigns & communicating, keep up with AI. We favour applicants who have a ‘heart for refugees”. Senior operational experience in a charity would be wonderful Qualities: "Can do" approach, good communicator, problem-solving, positive attitude, strategic, open-minded, fast-thinking, reliable, digitally savvy, anti-racist, inclusive

What difference will you make?

Calais Light is a small, energetic, National refugee Charity. Registered Charity (No: 1206481) which has achieved great things in the last 7 years. During that time we have organised & taken c.900 people on weekend-only, car-sharing convoys to Calais  to volunteer with NGOs who support refugees at our borders. We have sourced £450,000 brand new, stylish, perfectly-sized clothes & essential items from world-class Brands & delivered them to UK refugees in temporary accommodation. This helps newly arrived refugees fit into their local communities. We have teams of Volunteers teaching refugees vital English skills in Essex. Calais Light has a wide range of volunteers, with many young people involved as well as older. We have a  high percentage of men. We are a lively, diverse, multi-cultural & multi-ethnic force for good. We need senior level financial input & technical knowhow to help us grow healthily and safely, avoiding risk. To respond to one of the biggest crises of our time: global migration. This input will come from you.  We work with major brands & partner with many different stakeholders. Support for refugees & displaced people  is highly political & sensitive. Charity Funds re being squeezed left, right & centre with the Cost of Living crisis. The digital world is complex & constantly changing. We need agile, creative, humanitarian Trustees, with expert IT & Financial skills, who can help us navigate the way ahead. We will listen.
