Beanstalk

Beanstalk is a national literacy charity that recruits vets trains and supports volunteers to work with primary school children struggling with their reading.

Why are we exciting?

We have partnered with Save The Children on a mission to #ChangeTheStory which means that we are extending our reach across the UK to help transform the lives of many many more children who struggle with reading.

It is a shocking fact that 70% of pupils permanently excluded from school have difficulties in basic literacy skills.  According to the London Evening Standard "half of the juveniles arrested during the summer riots were educational failures. Govemment figures show that 48 per cent of those arrested by police were unable to read or write by age 11"

llliteracy is a persistent national problem in the UK - and can have a lasting effect on people's lives.
