6.6 million adults in England struggle to read and face challenges every day – at home, on the move, in the workplace, and with their friends and families.
We want to stop this trend. We want every child to read.
In 2024/25, we brought the joy of reading to 180,979 children who benefitted from our support. We supported 399 schools in disadvantaged communities up and down the UK, and delivered 70,329 high-quality and diverse books. We have worked hard to scale our reach and deepen our impact to support more children.

In the UK, 7.1 million adults struggle to read and have challenges every day – at home, on the move, in the workplace, and with their friends and families. Not only is this a huge challenge for those individuals, but it has a direct impact on their children's lives too. That's where Bookmark Reading Charity come in. They aim to improve the reading skills of children in deprived areas through a 6-week volunteer-led programme. They're growing fast, and aiming to reach an additional 3000 children by 2023.
