Brave Words was formed as a Community Interest Company in November 2018 with the joint aims of telling stories with a social purpose, and creating adventures in the arts that invest in children, young people and communities. We believe that every story has value and hope to create accessible and aspirational stages where people can come together and connect, as well as arts programmes helping people find their confidence and creativity. Our first Pay-What-You-Can Youth Theatre launched in Seacroft in 2019, followed by Beeston and Meanwood Youth Theatres in 2021. Today we work with more than 160 children and young people across disadvantaged areas of Leeds every week. Our debut show How to Be a Better Human toured from October 2021 - May 2023 including more than 50+ performances and a full run at Summerhall for Edinburgh Fringe 2022. In Autumn 2023 we started development of MUTTON, to tour late 2025. We are proud to be supported by Leeds City Council, Mohn-Westlake Foundation, Ann Maguire Foundation, Pears Youth Fund and Arts Council England.
