CineCity

Founded in 2003 by Tim Brown and Frank Gray, CINECITY has become the region’s major celebration of cinema. Festival highlights have spanned everything from Nick Cave programming a season exploring Berlin’s unique screen presence in 2004, to welcoming the great Agnès Varda to present an illustrated lecture examining her screen career in 2015. In 2013 we paid tribute to Czech filmmaker Jan Švankmajer with an acclaimed exhibition and retrospective of his work, and in 2017 we celebrated the 70th anniversary of the iconic British classic, Brighton Rock with a series of special events.

Some of the many special guests we have welcomed in person include Laurie Anderson, Clio Barnard, Nick Cave, Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, Grant Gee, John Hillcoat, Joanna Hogg, Jeff Keen, Andrew Kötting, Carol Morley, Laura Mulvey, Quay Brothers, Ben Rivers, Peter Strickland, Peter Tscherkassky, Agnès Varda and Ben Wheatley.
