Clachworks

Clachworks seeks to support those with an interest in craft, DIY and gardening who face barriers to engaging in these activities. These barriers could be: Economic -- tools are often expensive and require lots of space to store and use them Social -- women make up just 3% of the manual trades workforce in the construction industry, and people from a minority ethnic background just 5.4% Physical -- not everyone has physical access to the tools, skills, or space to use them There are environmental concerns too. It is often said that the average power drill is used for only 13 minutes of its entire lifetime. If you consider that four fifths of Scotland's carbon footprint is due to the production, consumption and waste of material goods, this is clearly not a good use of the earth's resources.  Clachworks seeks to create a socially inclusive space for making and remaking in Inverness, and believes that the principles of the circular economy are crucial to tackling these issues. By sharing tools, skills and resources, Clachworks aims to lower costs for individuals, reduce the amount of waste in landfill, and increase skills development and community empowerment.
