At Conception X, we help PhD researchers create deeptech startups and accelerate scientific breakthroughs. We launched seven years ago as a public innovation pilot at University College London and now run Europe’s leading cross-university deeptech venture creation programme. To date, we have recruited aspiring PhD founders from more than 60 universities, built 570+ founding teams across eight cohorts, and helped our portfolio startups raise more than £115 million.

Conception X is a venture builder, building deep-tech startups from PhD research. The UK faces a commercialisation gap where no one is supporting PhDs to turn their research into startups. By partnering with universities, they identify the most promising research for a venture build programme. They then support PhDs to develop their research into a winning business idea and provide them with the funding, training and resources to get it off the ground. So far, they have built 360 startups across a range of sectors including life sciences, AI and quantum.
