Digital Mums specialises in getting mums job-ready with in demand digital skills so they can find rewarding roles that sync with family life. We are creators of the #WorkThatWorks Movement and are bringing about widespread cultural change to the way we work in Britain. Forget the rigid 9-5 coat-on-chair model we aim to encourage more businesses to embrace a new way of flexible working for all.
Launched in 2014 by Nikki Cochrane and Kathryn Tyler, Digital Mums specialises in getting mums job-ready with in-demand social media and digital skills, so they can find flexible roles that sync with family life. Digital Mums supports mums and businesses by addressing two issues. The digital skills gap: 12.6 million adults currently lack basic digital skills. And, maternal unemployment: discrimination forces 54,000 new mothers and pregnant women out of their jobs every year. And, while employment rates for men go up after they’ve had children; employment rates for mums decline. Discrimination aside, one of the biggest barriers preventing mums in particular from returning to work is the lack of flexible roles. Our #WorkThatWorks report produced in conjunction with the Centre for Economics and Business Research (Cebr) showed that 6 in 10 UK working mums still don’t have access to flexible work and of those who do, over half have had to compromise their skills and experience in order to find it.
Our vision is to empower all mums and businesses with #WorkThatWorks - the perfect flexible working culture that enables employees and employers to thrive. It’s a vision that we’ve fully adopted with a 100% flexible working policy, and a vision that is working for the hundreds of mums and businesses we’ve worked with so far.
Kathryn and Nikki’s pioneering work for women in this area has gained them a number of high-profile awards in the last 12 months, including; Red Women of the Year; Marie Claire Future Shapers; two of 40 women over 40 currently shaping the internet by the Telegraph’s Stella magazine; and Campaign’s Digital Mavericks.
