About us

Farm Radio International (FRI) is a Canadian organization that promotes
radio as a tool to meet the communication needs of smallholder farmers
across Africa. In partnership with our 460 and counting radio station
partners across sub-Saharan Africa, we combine radio with modern ICTs
such as mobile phones, MP3 devices and online services. With these
tools, FRI offers radio stations and rural development initiatives a way
to communicate with smallholder farmers and rural households.

What can we offer Escapees?

These four to six month positions will be based at Farm Radio's regional office in Arusha, Tanzania (see map: https://bit.ly/fri-arusha). The positions are semi-volunteer which means we will cover all your expenses,
including return airfare to Tanzania, visas, health insurance, internal
travel, food and accommodation (but don't worry we'll make you work
for it)! You will get lots of opportunities to travel and visit radio
stations, broadcasters, farmers, rural communities and technology
partners in the region but why not also plan your own personal
vacation while here? Zanzibar is just a hop skip and jump to the coast, Mount Kilimanjaro is a stones throw from our office and the best safaris in the world are in our backyard!

Why are we exciting?

We believe work needs to be fun and challenging for all our staff. For example, some of our team climbed Mt Kilimanjaro to "go the distance" in our commitment to help African radio stations improve the lives of small scale farmers (see here https://bit.ly/1iYPY95).

Our work is exciting as we are:

  • In the studio with radio broadcasters
  • In the field with agricultural extension
  • In the villages with the farmers
