Careers at Hertfordshire Independent Living Service

Hertfordshire Independent Living Service, (formerly Hertfordshire Community Meals (HCM)) is a not-for-profit social enterprise that was established in 2007 to provide meals on wheels for people in Hertfordshire. We employ almost 200 staff, and deliver meals to approximately 2,000 clients, offering a 365 day service across Hertfordshire. HILS is an innovative and rapidly developing social enterprise, which exists to serve vulnerable clients, not to make a profit. Our values are fundamental to the way our organisation works and underline our expectations of all of our staff and volunteers. Our values are based around the most important parts of our business: caring for our clients; working for Hertfordshire's communities; being cost-efficient; working conscientiously; communicating effectively; and developing creative new services.

As Hertfordshire Community Meals, the business was named “Social Enterprise of the Year” at the 2014 National Business Awards and Hertfordshire Business Awards.

In 2014/15:

499,055 meals were delivered
42,028 tea meals were delivered
3652 individual clients received meals and welfare services
528 lunch club clients were supported with meals

On top of our core 'Meals on Wheels'‚Äã service, we provide the following:

A Community Alarm and Telecare service, a Emergency Grocery Delivery service, a Home from Hospital Pack Service, Dementia Fun Clubs and a Community Nutrition and Wellbeing service.

Over the coming months, we are developing a number of services to continue to help elderly and vulnerable clients. These include a Community Transport service, a Handyman service, Cleaning and Gardening services.
