The Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF) is an independent social change organisation working to support and speed up the transition to a more equitable and just future, free from poverty, where people and planet can flourish. We make grants and invest extensively in projects and partner organisations which are working to achieve the same goals. Through research, policy, collaboration and practical solutions, JRF aims to inspire action and change that will create a prosperous UK without poverty. For us, ending poverty in the UK is a moral cause: to ensure dignity and respect for everyone, and to address exclusion and powerlessness.
There's a lovely story linked to the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Joseph Rowntree was the founder of Rowntree's, the firm that built York's famous chocolate factory. A Quaker, he built the factory on principles of fairness and a vision of a better society, ensuring that his workers were well paid and had access to decent housing. A forward thinking approach that inspires the Joseph Rowntree Foundation's work to this day. They are an independent organisation that is working to solve UK poverty through research, policy and practical solutions. JRF fosters sustainable change in the UK through projects and partnerships. If you want to be part of a community that has the potential to make a huge impact on the lives of thousands of people, The Joseph Rowntree Foundation is a fantastic place to start
