We are a large Primary School in leafy Surrey and as such, many people would assume that we serve an affluent and perhaps privileged set of children. However, we are situated on the Northern edge of Leatherhead and serve a far more varied cohort than many realise. Our number of disadvantaged children is close to 40% which is way ahead of the next local school who are at 9%. We have also been lucky enough to welcome many children from around the world over the last two years, children from Ukraine, Syria, El Salvador and Afghanistan to name but a few. These children have enriched our school enormously in both language and culture but to help them learn English whilst keeping up with the curriculum is a challenge for them and us! We need to create opportunities for all these fabulous children which fall outside the remit of the usual educational offer. For example, access to instrument tuition, additional residential and days trips, books and digital resources to further enhance their learning, creating a paradise garden to promote well-being and good mental health in our grounds. To be able to do these things we need to bid for grant funding and that is why we need some help!
