We aim to disperse power to foster diversity and to nurture creativity. We believe that the role of the state is to enable all citizens to attain these ideals to contribute fully to their communities and to take part in the decisions which affect their lives."

About us

The Liberal Democrats are different. Unlike the other parties, we are a democratic organisation, where our members decide our policy and elect our leader.

Our local parties are independent and work hard in their communities - giving local people a voice and deciding how their neighbourhoods are run. And we have strong state parties in Scotland and Wales, and regional parties in England.

In the Coalition Government, we are working to build a stronger economy in a fairer society, enabling everyone to get on in life. We have given 24 million people a –à700 income tax cut, created 1 million jobs and helped 1.5 million apprentices.
