Not Beyond Redemption (NBR) provides mothers in prison with free Family Law advice and representation to help them re-establish and maintain contact with their children. NBR was founded with the fundamental belief that legal assistance should be accessible to those who need it most, regardless of their financial circumstances. The challenges faced by incarcerated mothers are exacerbated by limited access to Legal Aid since 2013, leaving them uninformed about their parental rights and unable to advocate for vital contact with their children. Consequently, many mothers have lost connection with their children, creating a distressing situation for both the individuals behind bars and the children they leave behind. Women in prison are especially vulnerable, grappling with issues like domestic violence, childhood abuse, mental health problems, and substance abuse. Recognising the transformative power of healthy family relationships in rehabilitation, NBR operates in-person legal clinics in six women’s prisons and ad hoc remote clinics in the remaining six. It offers guidance on family law, court representation, and legal advice to maintain and rebuild connections with their children. No other charity provides this service and without us, the women have nowhere else to turn.
