About us

Open Energi is a clean technology company helping to transform how we use and deliver energy in our cities, businesses and homes.

Global demand for power is ever greater, but to ensure our energy needs are met, electricity supply and demand must always be balanced. Too little electricity supply and we risk blackouts. Too much, and equipment could fail. Currently, balancing services are largely supplied by carbon-emitting, coal fired power stations which are run sub-optimally. This is costly, polluting and inefficient.

Open Energi’s Dynamic Demand technology is an alternative approach to grid balancing, providing National Grid with a cheaper, cleaner and quicker solution to energy supply fluctuations than running a power station sub-optimally.

We are looking for driven individuals to help us commercialise a technology with the potential to solve a worldwide energy problem.

If this sounds motivating to you please get in touch either in relation to the advertised jobs or speculatively.

What is energy demand management?

Energy demand management is the process of adjusting your electricity use in response to changes in the supply of electricity. This helps to ensure that the demand for electricity equals the supply of electricity and the grid is balanced – vital to maintaining power supplies.

Why is balancing the grid important?

Electricity cannot be stored economically, so at any point in time, the supply and demand for electricity must be equal.  National Grid must constantly monitor and adjust the supply of electricity to maintain this balance.  Currently this is mainly achieved by operating power stations at spare capacity and adjusting the supply of electricity to meet demand. This approach is inefficient, costly and polluting.
