Escape's take on Big Lemon

Big Lemon are kindred spirits of Escape the City. Fed up with their regular jobs, Owen and Kieran hatched the concept of Big Lemon over a pint. In a pub. Remember those days? Now, Big Lemon is a Wales-based studio creating all sorts of fun, innovative, engaging tech solutions for their wide range of clients. They're also a leader in the movement to use tech for good and with purpose. Small, mighty and tongue firmly in cheek, it's no surprise that they were a frontrunner in the People metric of the Escape 100. Must be something to do with the two gorgeous black labradors in the office!

🏖 Flexibility
Big Lemon have been so accommodating to me as a Mum returning to work from maternity leave. I have chosen the days and hours that suit me and they respect and encourage me to do so. They make sure work fits around me and my life and have a 'family comes first' attitude which is often rare to find!

👻 Transparency
Big Lemon are incredibly transparent with their employees and clients alike. Employees are kept in the loop with all upcoming work, financials, current and future plans. They operate with an open door policy and their warm and welcoming nature encourage staff members to be able to reach out and know their voices will be heard without judgement.

⛑ Employee wellbeing
Big Lemon make sure they regularly check in with their employees to see that we're doing ok, and if not, they will try and find ways to help. As a remote working company they ensure to make us feel bonded by scheduling regular work hangout days, activity days and care packages sent to our homes.

Overall

I love working at Big Lemon. They create a safe environment to learn and make mistakes in. There are plenty of opportunities to have full ownership of your work and make your own mark in the company. They are not strict nor stuffy, but understand that we are all human beings with lives and families outside of work.

🏖 Flexibility
I'm so grateful to work for a company that values flexibility and work-life balance. We are a 4-day working week company, with no fixed hours or mandatory office days. We have the freedom to manage our schedules and workload so that we can fit work around our lives, and not the other way round.

🤩 Flat hierarchy
Everyone has a chance to take the lead on projects, make decisions and be the go-to person for their expertise. It's not about job titles here; it's about the unique value, ideas and skills we all bring to the table.

Overall

Working at Big Lemon is everything I believe work should be. It offers the freedom and flexibility to effortlessly fit work around your life. The atmosphere is positive and uplifting, the work itself is both creatively challenging and exciting, and most importantly, there's a strong sense of trust, knowing that you're valued and supported by everyone around you.

When everyone cares and wants to look out for one another it makes a big difference especially when tight deadlines and very high expectations are part of the role.
