York Unlocked's core focus is to open up a number of buildings or architectural significance in the City of York over a weekend in Oct 2022 and each year thereafter. (This is based on successful models set up 30 yrs ago by Open Doors and Open House/City). The aim is to engage local people in all aspects of the City's urban landscape. We will also develop an educational programme in order to engage younger people. This activity is important in ensuring the people of York (and domestic visitors) appreciate the breadth of architectural offering within the urban landscape and the issues affecting conservation and urban development in an ancient city.
