Lifeworks North Staffs is a grass roots registered charity that supports marginalised people 14+ living with Autistic conditions including, ADHD, Dyspraxia, Tourette’s Syndrome, Social Anxiety, mostly with mental ill health, and their carers to find a sustainable lifestyle. Our clients are often very bright and keen to please but can often struggle with social interpretation and interaction and can become extremely isolated in the community.
From campaigning at local level to increase public awareness of autistic conditions, to providing much needed relevant services, our aim is to enable our service users to gain social inclusion in the community and develop a sustainable and rewarding lifestyle. Lifeworks receive referrals from the local NHS mental health services/hospital, social services and other organisations unable/unwilling to work with our clients. This included 120 new referrals in 2024 and 202 in 2025. Established in 2006 our one full and three part-time staff currently assist over 900 clients and 330 carers. We receive no government funding and are therefore reliant on our amazing team of volunteers to help us with our activities.
What our volunteers say about us.
“As a carer I find volunteering has helped my confidence and wellbeing. Lifeworks is like a big family and being able to give support to other carers is very rewarding.”
“It is helping me to increase my self-esteem, some of which I have lost from not being in employment for some years, is giving me confidence, by showing I have skills which are useful. It feels good to ‘be there’ for my befriended friend and to have their companionship in return.”
Volunteering for Lifeworks has helped me to gain experience by helping people on the Autistic Spectrum and given me a feeling of self-worth.
