If you are considering a career break volunteering or planning extended or remote travel then talk us to get inspiration. As the learned society for geography & geographers we want to encourage everyone to share their passion for places travel and the environment.
The Royal Geographical Society (with the Institute of British Geographers) is the learned society and professional body for geography & geographers. Dedicated to the enjoyment and understanding of geography at all levels, the Society supports and promotes geographical research, education, fieldwork and expeditions, and geography in society. The Society also holds one of the world's pre-eminent geographical collections of 2 million items that provide an unparalleled resource tracing 500 years of geographical discovery and research.
The Society, a registered charity, is located at the top of Exhibition Road where it welcomes thousands each year to events and activities and reaches out to many more through its website. Membership is open to all with an interest in geography and geographical learning. Members range from professional geographers, researchers and teachers, to travellers and other enthusiasts.
The Society offers a programme of lectures, discussions, debates and exhibitions to support a wider understanding of geography and its important role in shaping travel, culture and history.

Anyone can plan an expedition or remote travel - the real challenge is to take a journey that really makes a difference to you or the wider world. Travel is as much about learning from the people you meet along the way, as the places you visit.
People from all walks of life and abilities are setting off on journeys many of us could have only previously dreamed of. Get advice on expedition and journey planning; discuss how to identify projects that will inspire you (and funders!) and talk through issues you might need to consider before you go. Or just come along to one of our many events and share your ideas and experiences with others.
