Safer Waves was set up to support merchant seafarers who have experienced sexual harassment, gender discrimination or sexual assault while at sea. Seafarers are often unable to access the services that are available ashore due to factors such as poor phone signal, limited time on land etc. Seafarers are also vulnerable to sexual abuse due to their working environment, they can find themselves isolated and in a confined space with perpetrators. For this reason we believe that seafarers deserve support that is tailor made for them.
