We provide neurodivergent affirming play schemes for children and families in Thanet. Our founder, Alice, started See Me out of need for her son, after struggling to find affirming, safe spaces for play in the local area. For many neurodivergent children, play is treated as a prescribed training ground for masking. At See Me, we allow kids to be themselves and follow their lead. They are afforded agency and respect, and we encourage them to play however they want, not how we want them to. We also provide a space for parents to meet each other. They can chat, exchange knowledge, and share a cup of tea. This is so important as many families of disabled and neurodivergent kids are isolated, and become withdrawn from the community. While we are moving towards offering drop-off as an option, an important part of See Me remains how we involve and care for the adults in neurodivergent children's lives. We have been bowled over by the positive feedback we've received since launching in April 2023. We have been lucky enough to receive some great press, and are part of a growing online community of accessible play spaces. We are most proud of how the children have taken real ownership over the space, and are also grateful for the supportive community of parents and families that have emerged around it. For many children, this is the only extra curricular club they are able to attend, which is testament to the importance and value of the services we offer.
