Southwell Music Festival is a four-day music festival that takes place every August in the heart of ruralNottinghamshire. We curate a high-quality programme of over 30 live events, spanning from large-scale symphonic orchestral concerts to relaxed, intimate chamber concerts. It is the one of the only large-scale classical music festival in the East Midlands, tackling the need for improved cultural engagement opportunities in a currently underserved region. We aim to celebrate music, to raise the profile of the town and its magnificent mediaeval Minster, and to inspire and nurture local musicians – especially young people. Unlike the majority of UK regions, the East Midlands does not have a resident professional orchestra. The knock-on effect of this is that local people do not experience high-quality, classical music performances that inspire and engage them on a regular basis. Similarly, young people in the area do not have access to these sorts of role models that play such a key role in raising their aspiration levels.
