The Beehive currently operates two refuge safe-houses in Kenya. These provide a place of safety for young girls who become pregnant due to sexual abuse and where it is unsafe for them to remain in their own family or community. It operates under a Christian ethos of love and inclusion. Each refuge provides a family environment where child mums are given access to pre- & post- natal care, general medical care and returns mums to education and/or vocational training and gives access to education to their children. But most important of all each refuge provides the loving support for them to grow into confident, self-sufficient adults. When their babies grow to school age, they are also given access to education. The girls are taught parenting skills and they take care of their children when not at school. Re-building their self confidence is an essential part of the family style environment and where needed, professional counselling is provided.
