About us

The Food Assembly is a young company with a big vision: we use cutting-edge online technology to support sustainable farming by creating a better way to shop and eat. We do this by bringing people together to buy fresh food directly from local farmers and foodmakers.

With our technology and support everyone gets a better deal: farmers get a fairer price for their work and customers get access to fresh and unique regional foods.

Food Assemblies are set up and co-ordinated by local people and how each Assembly works is simple: customers buy food directly from local producers online, and then meet the people behind their food when they pick it up at a weekly pick-up market in their neighbourhood.  

Launched in France in September 2011, the network is growing daily and now connects over 400,000 members with 4,000 producers in over 700 Assemblies across France, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom. Spread across 10 teams throughout Europe, our company of 70 people works on the development of the platform and coordinates the expansion of the local networks.

By combining collective entrepreneurship and technologic innovation, The Food Assembly proposes a unique model of social business. Each of the Assemblies can carry out independent activities in an autonomous way. At the same time, all Assemblies are working towards realising a shared vision. Inside the company, we believe that positive change comes when people have the right tools to take constructive action on the issues that matter to them.
